Chloe has written about relationships for lifestyle magazines since her twenties, which is another way of saying she has spent eight Februaries answering the same message from the same friends: it is the tenth, I have nothing, help.

The answers were always the same three questions — what is the date, what does she already reach for, and how long does the thing take to make — so she started writing them down properly. Gifts for Girlfriend is that note, published: the occasion calendars, the ordering deadlines nobody warns you about, and the small habit of paying attention that makes February effortless.

She writes from Denver, keeps a running list of everything anyone she loves has ever mentioned wanting, and will argue at length that a card with three specific sentences in it outperforms most of what it is taped to.
